Frequently Asked Questions
What is Talk therapy?
Client-centered talk therapy aims to uncover the problematic thought patterns that lead to dysfunctional behaviour. The goals of this practice include raising self-awareness, encouraging flexibility and self-direction to implement the desired change, improving self-esteem and minimising negative feelings.
Is Talk Therapy the right approach for me?
An initial consultation is arranged to discuss your presenting issues and assess your needs. A course of action can then be proposed. Counselling involves working on a specific issue for a limited amount of time. This could be a problematic relationship or a life-changing event you’re having difficulty dealing with. Examples of life-changing events include relocation, losing your job, experiencing a serious illness or injury, disability or loss of a loved one, retiring from work, or divorce. Therapy tends to be more long-term and focuses on you as an individual. It involves looking at how you see yourself and the world, your thoughts and your behaviour.
Note: The initial consultation does not replace a medical doctor’s mental health evaluation but is an advisory platform to discuss your options.
What is a ‘Heilpraktiker’?
The term ‘Heilpraktiker’ (“healing practitioner”) is a naturopathic state-approved and state-regulated profession in German-speaking countries. It is recognised as an alternative and complementary healthcare profession by German law and certification is granted from the governmental Health office.
Does the public health insurance cover the costs?
I offer my services privately and they are not covered by public health insurance. Supplementary health insurance in Germany often covers the services of a ‘Heilpraktiker’. Please check your policy.
